Facebook has recently announce to remove the trending section from its feed.
As per the recent update from Facebook, they removing Trending soon to make way for future news experiences on Facebook. they had introduced Trending in 2014 as a way to help people discover news topics that were popular across the Facebook community. However, it was only available in five countries and accounted for less than 1.5% of clicks to news publishers on average.
But over the time it has been seen that trending section less useful and even getting worst as far as performance is considered. It has only accounted for less than 1.5% of clicks to news publishers on average.
They will start removing the Trending section from Facebook next week and will also remove products and third-party partner integrations that rely on the Trends API.
The way of content consuming has changed in last few years. People need more engaging content on their newsfeed, what would be more engaging than a video content, so following the path of Youtube, as Facebook always does, they are coming with video content in place pf trending article section.
They are coming up with the following features after removing the trending,

- Today In
- News Video in Watch
The audience is getting smarter day by day, they want real-time news from trustworthy sources to consume, they want to stay informed about what is happening around them.
Facebook will have to do a lot to bring those features in a creative manner to get more engagement.
