In a tweet on Thursday, President Donald Trump used social media to make his case for a $2.5 billion infrastructure project for the railroads and other industries, calling the project “a must for America” and “a great investment for our country.”
In the video below, Trump is seen standing at a stage in the lobby of Trump Tower, flanked by other business leaders, including his daughter Ivanka, former Gov.
Mike Pence, former Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The tweet also includes a link to a video clip from a “Pence Rally” that highlights the importance of infrastructure spending, and the White House released a statement on the video saying, “The Vice President will not be attending this event, as he has been working hard to bring economic growth to our country.
The Vice President is not here, and he is committed to doing everything he can to ensure that the next President of the United States is elected in November 2020.”
The White House also released a series of tweets on Thursday evening to counter the negative comments made about the project.
The president’s comments came after a series, including from a former senior Trump administration official, that called the train a “scam” that would cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
In a tweet posted to his personal account on Thursday night, the president wrote, “Just watched @Pence rally for $2B rail plan in NYC.
Can you imagine how many billions would be spent if we build this track and infrastructure?”
He also took credit for bringing together a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House and Senate to pass a bill that would fund the project for about $2 billion.
Trump also tweeted that he was also impressed by the “great turnout” at a rally in New York City on Wednesday night.
